Well, hi there, you crazy kids! Welcome to my blog! It's time once again for another round of Weekend Writing Warriors! Hope everyone's having a great weekend so far! I get an extra long one on account of Family Day tomorrow. It's one of those wacky and wonderful Canadian holidays. Who wouldn't support a day that emphasizes the importance of family? Right? Right.
Okay, so for the past two weeks I've shared excerpts from my short story called The Cold War. I'm entering it into a contest, so I've been making tweaks along the way. Feel free to add in your two cents as well! Hope you enjoy the continuing story!
“Fight hard, and fight smart!” Mucosa added.
“Infiltrate!”
“Permeate!”
Battle cries filled the air as we charged full speed ahead into the twin
tunnels. Instant darkness masked our path. The air was thick, heavy with
dampness and uncertainty. I pressed my forehead to the foggy glass and watched
in rapt attention as long, spindly arms flapped in the constant wind, impeding
our passage. My heart stuttered when in the shadows I caught a glimpse of the cocoons.
I dare you all to guess what the cocoons are. :D Thanks for reading! Hope you stay tuned!
Wow! That gets your attention -- terrific use of just the right amount of description to pique the curiosity. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! So glad it grabbed your attention! :)
DeleteCocoons eh? Hmmm, I have NO idea where this story is going to end up but wow, am I enjoying the journey! Best wishes on the contest - terrific snippet.
ReplyDeleteLol, it's a strange one for sure. Thanks for reading, Veronica, and for your fabulous comments! :)
DeleteOne's imagination can run wild, speculating about these cocoons. Attention-grabbing excerpt! Well done, my fellow Canadian. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Debbie! I'm smiling huge over here. :D
DeleteIntriguing snippet, Evelyn. Good luck in the contest.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jianne! I appreciate you stopping by to read! :)
DeleteI know! I know! *covers big flapping mouth*
ReplyDeleteHee! Show off. ;) Thanks for visiting, Mags!
DeleteOk my guess is...giant warrior butterflies! They are both beautiful and lethal. Ok, I'm probably wrong but it's worth a shot. Great eight, Evelyn.
ReplyDeleteOne small note: permeate kind of jarred me. I don't associate that word with battle. Doesn't mean it doesn't work, it's just a different usage than I've seen before.
LOL! Good guess, but not quite. I think if you knew the premise of the story, both the cocoons and the 'permeate' would make more sense. But I appreciate your comments, and thank you for stopping in! :)
DeleteCan't imagine what it was.
ReplyDeleteHee! I don't think I even know anymore. ;)
DeleteI may be crazy (no comments, please!) but I think I've got it figured out. The twin tunnels are a big clue, right? You clever girl. Best of luck with this contest and in everything else as well. Have fun on Family Day! Why doesn't the U.S. have a holiday like that?
ReplyDeleteYou? Crazy? Pfffft. ;) You're totally on the right track, er, tunnel. Since we're almost-family, feel free to celebrate Family Day too! *hugs*
DeleteThis is the most amusing, most perplexing, most unexpected story - another terrific excerpt!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks, Veronica! That's the best compliment I could ask for!
DeleteAll caught up now, and I don't know what the cocoons are!! lol.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the contest. :-)
Thanks so much, Teresa! You'll figure it out soon enough I should think. ;)
DeleteStill enjoying the silliness. A bit of Latin comes in very handy sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're stickin' with the crazy girl and her crazy story, Elin! Thanks for stopping by! :)
