Here's the blurb: After too many failed relationships, too many shots of tequila, and too many not-so-gentle nudges from her best friend, Sydney Montrose joins an online dating site in hopes of finding THE ONE. During her adventures, she crosses paths with a professional gamer who lives with his parents, a sweet and sarcastic parking enforcement officer, a flirty barista, a mystery man, a touchy-feely former felon, and a clown. Which one will she choose? Well, that's all entirely up to you!
In last week's excerpt, Syd took off in search of Joe, the escape artist, and found a parking ticket tacked to the windshield of her car instead. We'll continue from there....
“No, no, no, no!” she cried as she
dashed toward her car, barely paying any heed to the oncoming traffic.
The
officer looked up in alarm, taking a large step back from the vehicle and the
crazy lady approaching it.
“Please,
officer. Don’t give me a ticket, not today,” she panted, pressing a hand to her
chest.
“When’s
a better time for you?” he asked with a smirk.
Great,
a comedian. “How about never?” She lunged for the ticket from the safety of the
sidewalk and her knees almost buckled at the amount owing. “Thirty-five
dollars?!”
He
held his hands up in defense.

Any of you ever gotten a parking ticket before? Thirty-five bucks is actually cheap compared to some of the fines I've had to pay. lol. I even got one at the end of a date I'd been on too. The date was pretty good, but certainly not fifty-dollars-worth-good. So much for that "free drink." :D Wishing all of you a very happy, healthy, parking-ticket-free week ahead!
She must pay the fine once it's written but here comes a new man into her life. More, we want more. I feel her anxiety. Good writing.
ReplyDeleteHee! More next week, I promise! Thanks so much for your enthusiasm, Charmaine! :)
DeleteAw, that's no fun. Give her a break, officer!
ReplyDeleteI'll try to talk some sense into him! ;) Thanks, Eleri!
DeleteTease! I want more on the officer :) Parking tix are the one thing I tend to not get. Now speeding :/
ReplyDeleteLol, and I've yet to get a speeding ticket. *knocks on wood* Thanks for commenting, Michelle! :)
DeleteNice playful attempt at the officer. Looks like she's got no choice. I've only got one ticket in my life, and that was because I accidentally set the receipt in my dashboard upside down. I think 35 bucks isn't so bad. I have friends that have been hit with heavier fines.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I would have tried to fight the ticket if I'd accidentally placed the receipt upside down. You'd have the time stamp on there for proof. Yeah, 35 bucks ain't so bad, but I'd rather have that cash in my pocket. :) Thanks, Frank!
DeleteThirty-five isn't too unreasonable. He can make it up to her by buying her dinner. If he's single and cute, that is. Don't believe I've ever met a parking enforcement officer who met those criteria, though my experience is limited! :-)
ReplyDeleteLol, I haven't met a cute one yet, either. Usually they're long gone by the time I reach my vehicle. Sneaky sneaks. Thanks so much for stopping by, Christina! :)
DeleteA very cute snippet! I like the attitude of the parking officer.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tamara! So glad you enjoyed it! :)
DeleteOh poor girl. Maybe he can make her day a bit better : )
ReplyDeleteOh, I think he will for sure. ;) Thanks, Millie! Glad to see you again!
DeleteI'm sure it happens to parking officers all the time (most of the ones around here where I live are women BTW) and in this environment, I'd beware of acting too upset/whatever in front of a cop. Real world aside, maybe she and he will have a connection? Altho any man who smirks at me is off my list LOL. Guess if I was reading this in the actual story, I'd be taking the twist to the next dating possibility! Or back to some of the earlier ones you've given us, who were kinda dreamy :)
ReplyDeleteLol, you're not a fan of the smirkers, eh? :D We'll have to see what develops between these two, if anything. lol. Thanks, Veronica!
DeleteHa! How about a warning only from the officer? ;)
ReplyDeleteI think that's pretty fair. Hopefully he'll agree! ;) Thanks, Lorien!
DeleteYou may be shocked to know that I have never had a parking ticket. Nor have I ever had the chance to talk a hot cop out of giving me one. Love these excerpts!
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked! Shocked, I say! But not really. You're a goody-goody. ;) Thanks, baby!
DeleteI wonder if "Please don't give me a ticket" every works?
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I'd sure like to think so. Shouldn't life always be so easy? ;)
DeleteI doubt they feel a lot of sympathy--no one wants, or feel they deserve, a ticket. And if she told him her day, she'd just humiliate herself more!
