Weekend Writing Warriors #22!

Hi there, everyone! Welcome to the party! Today I'm on my way to my first family reunion of the summer. I'm taking a box of books with me because what am I if not a shameless self-promoter? Actually, my great aunt, of all people, requested that I bring some of my 'steamy' books with me. As long as the fam-jam doesn't expect me to do a reading, I'm totally fine with it. Go ahead and buy my books, just keep the dirty stuff to yourself. ;)

Last week I shared a smexy excerpt from my hockey story, Body Check. This week I'm gonna rewind a bit to fill in some of the blanks. But before that, here's the blurb!

Alicia Holden is the ultimate hockey fan. She eats, sleeps, and breathes the game, but there's one real reason for her devotion. And his name is Mike Converset. When an opportunity comes along to win a charity dinner with her hockey heartthrob, she leaps at the chance.

He's absolutely nothing like she imagined. Rough, tough, and in no mood to impress, Mike assumes Alicia's like every other woman who's come into his life, but he soon learns she's so much more. They share a connection that brings them closer together in mind and body. But is their romantic encounter simply a one-night stand, or can they take their passion into overtime?

And here's the excerpt!

“It wasn’t just the lure of dinner with you that brought me here tonight, Mike. I felt a connection to you, that you would choose this particular charity over all others. I had no idea about your brother, but I understand what you’re going through.”
His expression softened. His shoulders relaxed. A whoosh of breath passed through his lips.
“I know what it’s like to love a kid with autism,” she continued when it was clear he was giving her the floor. “There’s nothing in the world that you won’t do to protect them.”

That should hopefully answer some questions as to the 'connection' they share. Next week I'm gonna switch things up again so stay tuned! Thanks for coming out, and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors

    1. Thanks, Eleri! I do too! There needs to be more than just the surface attraction to make a relationship work. :)

  2. Ah so there is a softer side to the rough and tumble guy. I like that you have a deeper connection between them, not just surface stuff. As a side note, I like that you didn't pick one of the more common medical condition choices, like cancer let's say, and chose autism. Definitely something that needs to be mentioned more for public understanding. Good choice.

    1. Thanks so much, Cindy! I'm glad you appreciate my choices. I've spent a lot of time in the company of children with autism, and I wanted to try to find a way to incorporate that into one of my stories. :)

  4. Of course I would expect your whole family to be as awesomely amazing as you are! Have fun at the reunion! Body Check sounds great (as usual!) but I should tell you that I have a new mantra to repeat in my head when things start turning south: "Alice is a clown...in love with a mime. Alex is a mime...in love with a clown." No matter what else is going on, this makes me giggle and turns my world all sunny again! Thanks for keeping us entertained!

  6. How fun your GreatAunt asked you to bring the books! My elderly Aunt said, "Well, sweetie, this isn't *exactly* the type of book I read but I loved the cover." LOL. Excellent excerpt today, as the grandmother of an autistic child, I'm all for anything that puts a positive spotlight on the issues the families face. HUGS!

    1. LOL! Oh, those aunts. ;)

I'm all about putting a positive spotlight on special needs. I've volunteered many hours with autistic kids, and as tiring and frustrating as it can be at times, there's nothing more rewarding. *HUGS* to you!
