Weekend Writing Warriors #110!

Hello, my warrior friends! Happy Sunday! Today I will feel like a true warrior because I'm having an online writing retreat with my author pal, Maggie Wells, and, all told, we have to plans to write for close to 8 hours! Whew. Wish us luck!

For now, enjoy another 8 sentences from Adventures in Online Dating!

Here's the blurb: After too many failed relationships, too many shots of tequila, and too many not-so-gentle nudges from her best friend, Sydney Montrose joins an online dating site in hopes of finding THE ONE. During her adventures, she crosses paths with a professional gamer who lives with his parents, a sweet and sarcastic parking enforcement officer, a flirty barista, a mystery man, a touchy-feely former felon, and a clown. Which one will she choose? Well, that's all entirely up to you! :-D

And here's an excerpt, continuing from where we left off:

“Sydney, right?”
“Yeah, uh, yes, that’s me,” she answered as she stood. He swept her into a hug and the surprise she felt at the gesture was soon overshadowed by the exquisite feel of his arms wrapping around her. Holy hell, she was melting. And he smelled really, really good, like fabric softener mixed with hints of cologne--sweet and spicy.
“I’ll grab us some coffees and then we can chat.” He turned and headed for the counter and she admired his denim-encased ass the entire way. It didn’t bother her that he wore a tank top with those jeans because they’d agreed to go casual, and, quite frankly, the man rocked the grunge-look.

So, what do you think? Joe's batting 1000 so far, eh? We'll see if he can keep it up. ;) Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors!

All right, it's time to kick off the retreat! Wishing the rest of you a productive Sunday and a fabulous week ahead! :)

Weekend Writing Warriors #109!

Greetings and salutations! Happy first day of Daylight Savings! Yes, it sucks to lose an hour of sleep, but I'm very happy to enjoy an extra hour of sunlight. :) Now, here's a little something for your enjoyment...more from Adventures in Online Dating!

She stopped rambling long enough to catch the smirk on his face. “Sorry, I’m...nervous.”
He chuckled, locking crazy-blue eyes on her. “You look great to me. And maybe I’ll hold off on that coffee.” He shot her a wink as he turned on his heel and headed behind the counter.
Before her brain could catch up and  register how friggin’ cute the new barista was, Joe arrived--slick black rock-and-roll hair and biceps bulging. She made room in the booth, but she wasn’t sure they could both fit, and maybe it was better that way because sitting on his lap was sounding really good right about now.

Well, I've had a refreshingly productive weekend thus far. I hope by the end of the day to have another short story under my belt. This one's all about karaoke. I'm leaning towards calling it Love at First Karaoke. Perhaps I'll share an excerpt from it in the near future. For now, I bid you all adieu. Have a wonderful week! :)

Weekend Writing Warriors #108!

Hiya, folks! Happy March! There was a time when I doubted that spring would ever come again, but the non-frigid temperatures of this weekend have renewed my hope. Were you hoping for more from Adventures in Online Dating? Well, it's your lucky day! ;)

I decided to switch things up a bit this week and give you a taste of one of the other hopeful bachelors. We know that Charlie is a keeper, but what would have happened if Syd decided to meet up with Joe instead? Read on and find out!

Sydney slid into her favourite booth at the coffee house, her eyes darting from one corner to the other. Would it be wrong to order a pre-date coffee? As she mulled over the possibility, an apron-wearing Adonis approached. She was a customer loyalty card-carrying Planet Coffee regular, but she’d never seen this particular barista.
“You look like you’re meeting someone, so how about a cup of coffee while you wait?”
Instead of accepting his offer, she chose instead to focus on the first part of his statement. “Why do you think I look like I’m meeting someone? Oh God, it must be so obvious, and I'm too dressy...even though I tried to go for casual, but I’ve never been very good at that...I wonder if I have time to change....”

Well, last night I participated in my second ever speed dating event. This one was 20 dates in one night. *thud* My voice is hoarse and I'm mentally drained, but it was a darn good time! What a great way to strike up conversations with people you wouldn't otherwise talk to. It's amazing how much you can find out about a person in five minutes. While I'm not planning on walking down the aisle with any of them in the near future, there were a few guys who passed the test. We'll see if they liked me too. :) Wishing everyone a sweet and speedy week as we near spring!

Weekend Writing Warriors #107!

Well, I'm back! Back on Canadian soil, er, snow after a fantabulous Las Vegas vacation with my best girls! I'll share some of the deets shortly, but for now, how's about another eight sentences from Adventures in Online Dating?

Here's the blurb: After too many failed relationships, too many shots of tequila, and too many not-so-gentle nudges from her best friend, Sydney Montrose joins an online dating site in hopes of finding THE ONE. During her adventures, she crosses paths with a professional gamer who lives with his parents, a sweet and sarcastic parking enforcement officer, a flirty barista, a mystery man, a touchy-feely former felon, and a clown. Which one will she choose? Well, that's all entirely up to you! :-D

And here's an excerpt, continuing from where we left off:

He tucked a stray tendril of hair behind her ear. “Have I told you how incredible you look?”
Chills--from his words, from his touch. “Thank you.”
For a split second, she thought Charlie was going to kiss her, but instead, like the gentleman he was, he took a step back and released a shaky breath.
“Sydney, I know this is a bit forward of me, but do you wanna see my trunk?”
She laughed at the goofy grin on his face as much as the invitation itself. “I thought you’d never ask.”

So...Vegas. You know, I never really cared if I ever visited Sin City before I actually visited Sin City. Now I can't imagine my life without it. There is just SO much to see and do. The moment you arrive, the excitement and the energy wraps around you and won't let go. We gambled (I won four times in a row at the roulette table!), we watched the water dance in front of The Bellagio, saw the volcano erupt at the Mirage, got jiggy with it on Fremont Street, and then zip lined all the way down it, enjoyed many a sensational desert sunset, and basked in the beauty of the mountains that surrounded us. All in all, it was the most perfect getaway. Can't wait to go back! :) Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!

Weekend Writing Warriors #106!

Evelyn Jules can't come to the web right now. She's busy vacationing with her best girls in fabulous, sunny Las Vegas! However, she CAN share some pre-written words, so here goes....

Adventures in Online Dating blurb: After too many failed relationships, too many shots of tequila, and too many not-so-gentle nudges from her best friend, Sydney Montrose joins an online dating site in hopes of finding THE ONE. During her adventures, she crosses paths with a professional gamer who lives with his parents, a sweet and sarcastic parking enforcement officer, a flirty barista, a mystery man, a touchy-feely former felon, and a clown. Which one will she choose? Well, that's all entirely up to you! :-D

And here's an excerpt!
“You’re using napkins,” he said reassuringly. “The real thing is so much easier, and it just so happens I’ve got a trunk full of them.”
She giggled. She couldn’t help herself. This was a guy who was proud to admit he was carting a trunk-load of juggling balls.
“And it would give us a reason to prolong our date,” he added with a hopeful smile.
Relief pulsed through her veins. She’d come so close to cutting their date short, and now she couldn’t imagine it ending. “I don’t need a reason.”

I just have one thing to say: I LOVE LAS VEGAS!!!!! More lascivious details later. ;) Catch you all next week! xoxo

Weekend Writing Warriors #105!

Hey there, my friends! Many thanks for the lovely birthday messages from last weekend. I had a fantastic time super-bowling with the fam, despite the fact that I wasn't the big winner. But I got the biggest piece of cake so that makes up for it. Mostly. As my gift to you, I'm continuing with Adventures in Online Dating. ;) Read on!

The vibrations of his laughter shook through her. “That’s our best kept secret.” He placed two of the balled up napkins in her hands—one in the right and one in the left—his touch lingering against her fingertips. “Start with the right hand, and when the ball is at its peak and beginning its descent, toss the ball in your left hand underneath it.”
He held both her hands in his own, motioning hers in the pattern he’d just explained. Slowly, and with lots of encouragement, he managed to convince her to attempt the pattern on her own.
After her fifth fumbled attempt and her echoing frustration, he spun her around in his arms. Her cheeks flamed under the heat of his gaze. “Told you I was a klutz.”

Well, we've just kicked off semester two at Adult High School. I'm teaching up a storm and soon to be packing up a storm for my trip to Las Vegas! I'll be heading to Sin City at a very ungodly hour on Thursday, and I won't be back till the following Monday. Can't wait to get out of this frozen tundra country for a while! Wishing everyone as wonderful and wild a week as mine undoubtedly will be! :)

Weekend Writing Warriors #104!

Good Sunday morning, my dears! Happy February! Can't believe we're already a month into 2015! Let's not waste another moment and get this show on the road!

Here's the blurb for Adventures in Online Dating: After too many failed relationships, too many shots of tequila, and too many not-so-gentle nudges from her best friend, Sydney Montrose joins an online dating site in hopes of finding THE ONE.

She took his hand and stood, marveling at the warmth radiating from his palm. He shuffled their bodies until he was directly behind her. His hands held both of hers now, palm-up. Other patrons in the shop were looking at the curious display, but she didn’t give a damn. All she cared about was the heat of his body pressing against hers, and how safe she felt in his arms.
“You forgot to tell me one of the other perks of juggling,” she murmured.
            “What’s that?”
His hot breath stirred the hairs on the back of her neck and nearly broke her train of thought. “It’s sexy as hell.”

Well, it's currently Friday night as I'm typing this, aka: the night before my 32nd birthday extravaganza. In honour of the occasion, we're having our own version of the superbowl. I call it...super-bowling! And the only place you can do that is in a bowling alley. Or on a lawn. Lawn bowling is great fun if you've never tried it. There will also be tons of family time, hugging, eating, caking, and karaokeing. The ingredients for a perfect day, wouldn't you say? Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead! :)
