Weekend Writing Warriors #69!

*giggles* This is my 69th contribution to the WWW. :D Yes, I'm 12. So hi! Welcome back to another exciting weekend of reading, writing, and reveling in wordsmithing! I'm gonna share an excerpt from my Cheapskates today. But remember, just because I'm cheap, it doesn't mean I'm easy. ;)

Here's the blurb: It’s couples' skating night down at the local rink and Elena Armstrong can’t seem to keep her cocky jock blind date around long enough to knee him in the balls. Sadly, she was too much of a cheapskate to pay for a membership to an online dating site and based everything on Leonard’s personality profile alone. Big mistake.

At the opposite end of the rink, Ben Kessel, another cheapskate on a blind date with Iris, the ice princess, is having a similarly miserable time. Elena, a hater of all things sports-related, inches out into the skating world butt-first and collides with Ben. After sharing their hilarious and horrifying dates-gone-wrong stories, the two disappear and make everything right again on the floor in the players’ dressing room. Almost everything. They forget to exchange numbers. Now these two cheapskates need to make the ultimate sacrifice: pay for a membership to the online dating site so they can track each other down. But is the possibility of love really worth the price of $24.95 per month?

And here's the excerpt, continuing from where we left off:

He stretched his hand out and she grabbed it, afraid it would disappear along with the rest of this beautiful dream. But his hand was hot, and real, and attached to a strong arm that effortlessly pulled her to her feet.
When she almost stumbled again, he gripped her waist with one hand and opened some kind of secret door built into the boards with the other. She gaped at him. “Those things open?”
“Yeah,” he said, chuckling. “This is the players’ bench. Most hockey players hop over the boards during a game to get on the ice, and go through this door when they come off.”
“I’ve been wobbling around like a lunatic this entire time and I could have been sitting behind the boards?”

Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors!

Yesterday I went on a spectacular date. Quite possibly the best first date I've ever been on. And today I'm off to a potluck to meet up with some fellow authors in the Ottawa area. It's been one heck of a weekend so far! Wishing you all a wonderful day and week ahead!! :)

  9. Oh, no! If only she'd known! But then again, she probably wouldn't have caught his eye if she'd been sitting out of the way, so... sacrifices must be made for love.
